We are very happy to include the first installment of Nic’s lead sheets, original sound recordings and also solo transcription (by Simon Revill) on the KR store, of course, in KR file format - so you can loop sections and slow down the tracks to give yourself the chance to practice some of Nic’s lightening speed lines at a manageable tempo.
About ‘From Istanbul to Ceuta with a Smile’
David Mead - Guitar Techniques, April 2013, 4****
“It’s difficult to associate guitarist Nic Meier with any one specific style these days. A seasoned jazz player who has always worked on the fringes of the accepted mainstream, he has now moved over towards a sort of world music orientated jazz fusion that defies categorisation. On this CD, the full title of which is From Istanbul to Ceuta with a Smile, Nic is exhibiting a distinct Turkish musical influence. For instance, along with his standard steel and nylon-string guitar exploits, he is to be heard playing both the Glissentar - a fretless eleven-string instrument employing nylon strings which is similar to a regular 12 string guitar except for the fact that the bass E is not paired - and the Baglama, a traditional Eastern Mediterranean instrument with a pear-shaped body and three strings. When combined with violin, drums, bass, harmonica, sax, cello and percussion the result is a truly fascinating mix of styles reminiscent of Metheny’s best cross-cultural experiments. If you fancy giving your ears and mind an intriguing and pleasant workout, we recommend you give this a try.”

About Simon Revill
Simon Revill is a guitarist, guitar teacher and offers an excellent transcription service. He transcribed Nic’s solo on ‘The Lightness’.
In his own words: “My name is Simon Revill and I’m a full-time guitar teacher and music producer from the UK. I teach primarily electric guitar but I also teach acoustic and classical too. I’ve been playing guitar since I was about 8 years old. I’ve been teaching privately for the last 5 years or so and it has been a really rewarding experience. I’ve seen many of my students go from knowing nothing to jamming with me and telling me where I’m going wrong. Especially the young students! To me, helping people discover how to play the guitar doesn’t feel like a job. Teaching guitar, or any instrument in fact, can be challenging at times but ultimately that experience always helps you to become better as a player and a tutor. I’ve enjoyed learning so much from doing it, and it’s one of the reasons I started this website. I wanted to see if I could pass my experience on to other players out there and help them develop their playing in some way.” Learn more about Simon HERE.
